Welcome to the "About" section of New Frontier Wrestling, where we hope to answer any and all questions that pertain to the federation. This will include a look back to our early years, as well as explain the revolutionary concept that we employ here. So sit back, smoke 'em if you got 'em and strap those seat belts on...as we're about to take a wild ride.

HISTORY

Much like any federation associated with fWrestling.com, New Frontier Wrestling's history truly starts in the early 90's on the Prodigy Online service that used to compete against AOL as a primary internet service provider. Prodigy was one of the first organized fantasy wrestling communities that produced many long-standing writers in our federation and other esteemed ones such as CSWA and the fWo.

In particular importance to NFW would be the UWA, an indy-style fed that paid particular indy-roots homage to Philadelphia wrestling. The UWA ran on the Prodigy Service from 1992-1997 producing a revolutionary style of writing that influences NFW still to this day.

The UWA was home to many fwrestling.com legends such as Tom Adler, Mike Randalls, Craig Miles, Troy Windham, Avery Prosser, Michael Manson, Shane Southern, Anarky and even had a special appearance by Hornet, once.

In roleplay, the UWA closed due to financial struggles that were induced by Anne Mystic's kidnapping attempt on UWA's first owner, Avery Everette. Sullivan tried to revamp the fed using fresh, young talent and doing away with alot of stars...but it didn't last long.

Out of roleplay, alot of locker room bickering and political jockeying led to JN (the headhoncho) simply not being interested in running the fed any longer and he closed up shop.

Three years passed after UWA's closure, JN seemingly not interested in the politics FW was running into. Ironically, in 2000 through the magic of the blossoming internet and fantasywrestling.com community -- IMs and emails started getting traded back and forth between himself and some dude named Katz..

Both agreed on many of the problems that led to Prodigy's demise, and both agreed they'd love to run a fed together. Jamar, always a fan of Katz's Craig Miles character suggested an indy style fed founded by Miles and Sullivan. After about 9,000 different acronyms and league titles brainstormed it was settled.

New Frontier Wrestling (NFW) was officially announced to the world on JUNE 1, 2000. Secretly stowed away on nothing, but a Yahoo Groups! message board -- a host of fW.com regulars, UWA veterans and other random applicants (wouldn't be the internet, without that) quickly joined and the journey began.

CRASH TV! debuted at the Vault in Baltimore, Maryland that summer. Several more shows were aired there until the federation was actually BANNED from the city after a fire marshall inspecting their business practices witnessed a wrestler getting lit on fire and thrown inside a trashcan. During this time, NFW crowned its inaugural World Champion -- Bloodhunt.

Constantly touring the East coast, NFW found itself thriving for its first two years. An underground hit sensation with fans, while the attendance figures were small -- NFW would sell out any venue. New characters to the 'universe' such as Armando Montezuma, Rick Ryconik, Hellmachine, The Original Showstoppers w/ Calvin Cartlon, The Dogs of War, Tempesta Del Fuerte meshed perfectly with past UWA regulars like Shane Southern, Michael Manson, Wildstar, Alex Wylde and Bloodhunt.

Unfortunately, a masked wrestler with ties to the mafia forced a federal investigation to derail New Frontier Wrestling for six months. Anything as grand as this would normally have shut down any other federation, but Craig Miles and Quentin Sullivan sued the government, immediately after being cleared of all charges in regards to harboring a fugitive.

NFW would live, but now Miles and Sullivan were at a crossroads. With enough money won from the government to make them rich for the rest of their lives, they also had an opportunity to invest enough capital in their own project to make it a national force. Only one problem -- the market was saturated and on-par with their own talent.

How could they set themselves apart?

How could they beat them?

The attraction of fantasy wrestling has always been the opportunity to create your own character, write for them and compete against others in the hobby for the right to be a champion. If you look past fantasy wrestling, you'll also see millions of people each year playing fantasy sports. Fantasy Football, in particular, is one of the most popular hobbies in the United States of America and probably creates billions of dollars in revenue.

Professional sports have always had a wealth of storylines, drama, personal struggles, inspiring moments and courageous performances. On the flip side of the coin, professional athletes such as Ron Artest, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss can be considered veritable 'heels' of our society seen thru the lens of sports media.

March Madness.

The World Series.

The Super Bowl.

How many billions of people total watch these events mesmerized, captivated and in some cases, on their knees praying for God to bestow victory on their chosen team?

The six month hiatus for NFW, behind-the-scenes, was mostly due to fedhead burnout on the parts of Jamar and myself. If Gregg Gethard hadn't recognized the genius of combining the very best of Professional Sports, Fantasy Sports and Fantasy Wrestling -- most likely, I wouldn't be writing this right now.

So yeah, FUCK YOU GREGG!

*cough*

It probably only lasted two hours in a spirited IM chat after Gregg said, "DUDE! I GOT THE BEST IDEA FOR NFW!" -- but upon looking at our chat, I was frankly amazed at all the random ideas that popped into our heads just when thinking of something funny, magical or downright strange to do from our memories of sports and applying them to this hobby.

We could hold a draft.

We could have conferences.

We could have an All-Star Week.

We could have PLAYOFFS.

All we needed was something akin to the Lombardi Trophy and Stanley Cup. Something with enough history that any wrestling fan in the fw.com universe would signify with the 'ultimate' prize in wrestling.

God bless Chad Merrit and his midget-loving soul, as he gladly donated the ULTRATITLE from CSWA folklore to the NFW after Gethard and I marked out over using it during our initial IM convo. Now, with our 8-tier trophy...we were ready to start anew.

To say the least, Gethard was right. Chad loved the idea, Jamar was back on board...people on fW.com thought it was genius. This time we pitched the concept to the best of the best -- Hornet, Southern, Manson, Eli Flair, Deacon, Eddy Love, Dan Ryan, Joey Melton, Lindsay Troy -- characters with legacies came on board during Season One. Not only that, many of fW.com's long-time regulars signed up. There'd be too many names to list, but to say the least, we've had some great names pass through this federation over the last two years.

The Road to the Ultratitle began in June 2003, with two conferences (North and South) holding a draft lottery. Over the next '16 weeks,' wrestlers would compete against each other over a regular season...where each conference would have 4 wild cards and 2 division winners, all qualifying for an NFL styled single elimination playoffs.

At Wrestlebowl I, early in 2005, Michael Manson defeated Shane Southern to win NFW's inaugural ULTRATITLE Season 1. However, with a convoluted storyline stretching back to the UWA as well as other federations (CSWA, fWo, tsC) -- the season ended with the North and South Conferences folding, a new ownership infrastructure and two new conferences.

The East Conference, bought by a Tokyo Ownership; mostly based on the fwrestling.com fed style system (RP-based, w/ focus on storyline/angles). Susano Mikoto is in in-roleplay Conference Chairman of the East, as well as on the NFW Board of Directors.

The West Conference, Miles/Mayfield blood feud war-zone with ties to several outside federations; hybrid-based, until the playoffs. Anne Mystic and Craig Miles share Chairperson positions for the Western Conference in roleplay, as well as have seats on the NFW Board of Directors.

Quentin Sullivan is the President of NFW, as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Consider him the David Stern/Paul Tagliabue type figure in the federation.

NOTE: Recently, NFW has announced it is returning to its normal format of title divisions after four years of the 'seasonal' concept. Stay tuned as history is added about this innovative time in our hobby.

APPLYING TO NFW

So, you're looking at all this and going, what the fuck?

Don't worry, I am too.

Still, you might be interested in joining. And hell, we might be interested in letting you in. So, here's some pertinent information you'll first need to know about applying to NFW. First of all, whether you want to RP, write matches or segments for shows -- NFW's reward system isn't for the impatient, me-first types. We like our storylines to burn slowly, sometimes we like to create them for you in an instance where the writers are reacting to your RPs/storylines. Its always been called "Running w/ the Ball" and if you can show us that you're damn good at that for longer than two shows, don't complain and ask for Goldberg-like runs cause you're the best writer ever...we'll most likely push you without problems.
